About the Governor David Ige Digital Center
Governor David Ige served as the first governor of the social media and digital media age in Hawaiʻi. Consequently, most of the records of the Ige administration were born digitally, including photos, videos, word processing documents, social media posts, and other standard digital formats.
Press conferences were streamed on Facebook Live, and press announcements were via email and on social media accounts. The social media archive of the Ige administration consists of more than 58,000 files, spanning more than 278 GBytes of data. The objective of the Governor David Y. Ige Digital Center is to capture and make publicly available this vast amount of information generated during the Ige administration — the state’s first digital governorship. This resource is designed to help members of the general public, especially students and those doing research on state programs, understand decisions made in key areas.
The Governor David Y. Ige Digital Center is believed to be the first of its kind in the nation. It is a dedicated digital archive for Gov. Ige’s policies and programs, and it represents the most comprehensive record of the activities, challenges, actions, and successes of any governor in the country. Through this center, we aim to describe a period in Hawaiʻi's history when state government was confronted with a series of unprecedented crises and how the state responded. It also seeks to document the Ige administrationʻs approach to and progress made toward statewide priorities, and to provide an “inside look” at the context and challenges for policymakers and staff at the governor’s level and in state departments.
